Our pastor was back from vacation today and preached a wonderful sermon based on Ephesians 6 and spiritual warfare. The sermon reminded me of a section from Mark Chanski’s book, Womanly Dominion, where he offers some helpful advice. Chanski writes:
Eve and her daughters are peculiarly prime targets for Satan’s assaults. His fiery darts come by way of subtle suggestions.
And he said to the woman,
“Indeed has God said, ‘You shall not eat from any tree of the garden?’”
The woman said to the serpent,
“From the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat,
but from the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God has said,
‘You shall not eat from it or touch it or you will surely die.’”
The serpent said to the woman, “You surely will not die!”
Chanski continues, “. . . the serpent approached her and in this approach manifests his subtlety. So ladies, consider yourselves warned. The Liar takes a special pleasure in whispering into your pretty ears. You are darling targets for his dart-like wiles.”
How do we combat Satan’s subtle ways? Preach the truth of God’s Word to your heart every day! Believe it and live it out. When you are struggling with something in particular, look up verses that speak directly to your struggle (and, in the Bible, you will always find at least one verse to every dilemma!), memorize it, and speak truth to yourself when the lies of the Liar come to your heart. And, pray that the Lord will help you believe His truth and deliver you from evil.
