The headline that circled the globe was bold and dogmatic: “Stephen Hawking: God Did Not Create Universe”.
According to 68 year old Professor Hawking, there is no place for God in any theory that postulates the creation of the universe. The reason is simple: the universe can create itself from nothing. Dr. Hawking is sure about this. But how does he know? Is he omnipotent? No, he has no power to lift a fork to feed himself, let alone create anything. Is he omnipresent? No, he is confined to a wheelchair, though he once enjoyed a moment of weightlessness in an airplane. Is he omniscient? No, outside of his area of expertise in mathematics he can only engage in amusing speculations of science fiction, as he does when he says with equal confidence that aliens almost certainly exist, but humans should avoid making contact for the aliens will probably just raid earth and then move on. Of course! How clever these aliens are! And how superior too!
So how does Stephen Hawking know that God did not create the universe? The answer is that his religion of belief in “lucky” combinations and “matter” overrules any objective evidence of an intelligent design and thus a Designer.
Citing the 1992 discovery of a planet orbiting a star other than our Sun, he said: “That makes the coincidences of our planetary conditions— the single Sun, the lucky combination of Earth-Sun distance and solar mass—far less remarkable, and far less compelling as evidence that the earth was carefully designed just to please us human beings.”
He added: “Because there is a law such as gravity, the universe can and will create itself from nothing.
“Spontaneous creation is the reason there is something rather than nothing, why the universe exists, why we exist.
“It is not necessary to invoke God to light the blue touch paper and set the universe going.”
I have read that Dr. Hawking does not like being called an atheist, which is good for at least he still has enough intelligence left to know that a rational person can only be an agnostic or a deist. But, he is living and teaching others as an acting atheist by dismissing God from His own universe. There is an arrogance to acting like an atheist, to say nothing like talking as a fool.
