Bondage of the Blog

Like millions of other people the only contact I ever had with Tony Snow was vicariously through the television and listening to him on the radio. However, through modern means of communication a person feels as if they “know” someone else. The heart can react accordingly with joy or sorrow at the events that occur in a person’s life. I was saddened by the death of Tony Snow. My heart goes out to his family and those closest to him for they have lost a great husband, father and friend. And America has lost a great champion.

Tony Snow was patriotic. No one can question his commitment to his country. He was ready and eager to defend America against all enemies both foreign and domestic. Recognizing that America is a flawed nation because it consists of fallen humanity, Tony Snow always contended that America was and is willing to learn from the past and correct its own injustices while trying to help others in the world in time of war, famine, economic distress or during natural disasters. America is often the first to arrive on a scene and the last to leave those in need. Tony Snow loved this country. He was articulate about the values and principles that make America great.

But more importantly Tony Snow was a Christian. By all accounts his faith was important to him. He did not leave his faith in a building on Sunday but took it with him as part of who he was. Because of this Tony Snow was an optimist. His constant smile was engaging. His presence was warm. His nerves were calm. His commitment to core principles solid. And, when death came knocking at his door Tony Snow did not falter in his faith. It sustained him through cancer treatment to the end of time with a view towards eternity. Not too long ago the angels came to escort this precious soul to his eternal reward. I am sure he heard the Lord say, “Well done thou good and faithful servant. Enter now into the joys of the eternal kingdom. Well done. And welcome home.”

For those who would like to see Tony Snow again there is a way. That way is not through the occult, reincarnation or mysticism but through faith in Jesus Christ. In John 11:25 Jesus said unto a lady named Martha who was grieving over the death of her brother Lazarus, “I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: 26 And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?” That is the question. Do you believe in Christ? Do you believe in eternal life? Do you believe in the resurrection? Tony Snow did and so though he is absent from the body, he is present with the Lord and the hearts of those who love and care for him can be comforted.
