By the grace of God, the power of the Holy Spirit, and the atoning work of Christ at Calvary, Stanford E. Murrell was converted at an early age. From his youth Stan sensed a call to preach the gospel and made his first attempt at the age of 14 at the Gospel Rescue Mission in Dallas, Texas. By the age of 15 he was licensed to preach by the Coliseum Place Baptist Church in New Orleans, Louisiana.
In June, 1972, after graduating from Sunset High School in Dallas, Texas, he entered the U.S. Army to serve as a Chaplain's Assistant. Following three years of active duty, he attended Ft. Hays State University in Hays, Kansas where he received a teaching degree in secondary education after studying American history.
During his years in college, Stan served as the pastor of a church in Mankato, Kansas where he met and married Marta Leonard. They have two children and seven grandchildren. Their son, Adam, is currently serving as an Officer in the US Navy. He and his wife have four children. Their daughter, Tara, is a registered nurse and married to a surgeon.
